Project Date: Winter 2018/2019

"Starting from a "blank canvas", the brief was to create a home office area in a brand new apartment already featuring high-spec Arrital fittings in the bathrooms, dressing areas & kitchen. Open plan and contemporary throughout, the office design needed to continue this theme, and in particular acknowledge the large "floating" island which forms the centrepiece of the kitchen area nearby.

The process began with a number of working visits to the apartment and the Arrital showroom to establish the context, discuss requirements and brainstorm ideas. Combining experience, product knowledge and characteristic creative flair, Nick and the team rose to the challenge, working their magic to produce a truly inspired bespoke design. Two "wasted" alcoves would be converted into full-height flexible storage spaces concealed by flush fitting doors, complemented by a separate modern suspension file storage system. A free-standing work surface would accommodate two adjacent but independent positions, and in a design masterstroke, use of Corian would allow for a seamless contoured desk surface, combined with glass supports to maintain open sight lines and achieve the illusion of "floating".

Use of 3D modelling tools allowed every aspect of the proposal to be examined in 360 degrees, bringing the whole thing to life. Dimensions, materials, colours, textures and lighting could all be adjusted for maximum realism, and no detail was considered too small to benefit from review. Factors crucial to a successful implementation such as door openings and clearances, could all be examined, validated and adjusted as required, together with important finishing touches such as the best means of concealing the cabling runs.

This care and attention to detail continued into the two implementation phases, firstly the two alcove cupboards and suspension file storage, followed by the working surface itself.

Consummate professionals focused on complete customer satisfaction, all members of the team were approachable, personable, good humoured and abundantly resourceful. From the outset it was clear that this unusual project was in very capable hands.

The fact that the actual implementation has been completed exactly according to the agreed model, makes it no less stunning. Impressive and unusual, as intended the office area has become a "mini-hub" in the apartment, second only to the kitchen island, and is a well-admired talking point for visitors.
